Gusto directory integration

Gusto is a payroll, benefits, and HR platform. Connecting Gusto to Nametag keeps your employee directory in sync automatically: new hires appear in Nametag as they’re added, and terminated employees are removed the same day they’re offboarded. For companies that run on Gusto without a separate workforce identity provider, Gusto becomes the single source of truth for who works there.

This is a directory-sync integration only. Nametag reads your employee roster from Gusto — it performs no account recovery, and it never writes anything back to Gusto.

What Nametag reads — and what it never touches

Read (directory only): employee name, work email, employment status (active or terminated), hire and termination dates, department, and job title.

Never accessed or stored: Social Security numbers, dates of birth, home addresses, compensation, bank details, or any other payroll data. Nametag requests the employees:read scope only, and the connection is read-only.

Gusto does not expose employee photos through its API, so none are synced.

How it works

1. From the Nametag console, an administrator connects Gusto through Gusto’s secure authorization — no API keys to copy or paste.
2. Nametag reads the company’s employee roster and creates a matching directory entry for each active employee.
3. Changes flow in continuously: new hires are added, and terminated employees are removed, backed by a periodic reconciliation so the directory stays accurate.

Gusto setup

Before you start:

• You are signed in to the Nametag console as an administrator.
• You have administrator access to your company’s Gusto account.
• Your company is on an eligible Gusto plan. Department data requires Gusto Plus or above.

Steps:

1. In the Nametag console, go to Integrations and choose Gusto.
2. Press Connect. You’ll be sent to Gusto to authorize the connection; approve it and you’ll be returned to Nametag.
3. Confirm the Gusto company to sync and whether to include already-terminated employees (recommended — they import as deactivated so your records match).
4. Review the field mapping and press Enable. Nametag runs an initial sync immediately and shows the number of employees synced.

Afterward, the Gusto page in the console shows the connected company, active and deactivated counts, last sync time, and a Disconnect option.

Ongoing behavior

• New hires in Gusto appear in Nametag automatically, usually in seconds.
• Terminated employees are removed from Nametag the same day.
• A background reconciliation catches anything a real-time update missed.

Disconnecting

Press Disconnect on the Gusto page in the console, or revoke the connection in Gusto. Nametag stops syncing and removes its stored access.
